Prof. B. Glasmacher Prof. B. Glasmacher Welcome to the Centre for Biomedical Engineering of the Leibniz Universität Hannover. The Centre for Biomedical Engineering started in 1999 with an innovation offensive triggered by the state of Lower Saxony and the Lower Saxony Universities and Colleges. Medical technology has been considered to be – and still is – a future oriented technology field with a worldwide potential for growth. Biomedical engineering has been given the status of being a key technology, and it has, due to a continually growing market, an increasing need for analytical, diagnostical, producing and process-oriented instruments.
To meet the demands of this growing market, it is utterly necessary to educate students, so they can find solutions to the challenges of such a complex, multidisciplinary technology field. On the level of university research, cooperative, multidisciplinary cooperation is important for solving interdisciplinary tasks.
The goal of the Centre for Biomedical Engineering is to combine education and research in a multidisciplinary way. A basis for this is the close cooperation between the Hannover Medical School (MHH), the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover (TiHo), and the faculties of electrical engineering, chemistry, biology and physics of the Leibniz Universität Hannover (LUH), supplemented by the Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. (LZH) and industrial partners. The interdisciplinary character of the centre is reflected by the composition of the board of directors.
